Ceiling Fans with Lights Under R3,000

A ceiling fan with a built-in light cools the room and lights it from one ceiling point, which is why it is a popular choice for bedrooms and lounges. If your budget is around R3,000, here is what you can get, what to compare, and how to pick the right size for the room.

So the two Synerji 42-inch fans come in under R3,000 including VAT, and the SPAZIO Fan-Tastic is under R3,000 before VAT. The Synerji 42-inch with the brighter 24W light is R3,446.00 excl. VAT.

1. Size the fan to the room

The fan's diameter (in inches or millimetres) should suit the room. A fan that is too small for a large lounge will not move enough air; one that is too big crowds a small bedroom.

  • Compact fans, around 23–36 inches (up to about 915mm): studies, small bedrooms, walk-in closets and apartments. Examples: the SPAZIO Fan-Tastic (Ø915mm) and the Synerji 23-inch DC fan with 24W LED light.
  • 42-inch (about 1070mm): bedrooms, studies and smaller lounges.
  • 52-inch (about 1320mm) and larger: lounges, dining rooms and larger bedrooms. Our 52-inch fans start from R2,834.00 excl. VAT (the Synerji 4-blade, without a light).

2. Check the light

If the fan will be the room's main light, look for a brighter light and a lumen figure where one is listed. The Synerji 42-inch listing recommends its 24W light where the fan is the main light and the 18W where other lights do most of the work. Selectable colour temperature (CCT) lets you choose warm white for a bedroom or cool white for a study, and a dimmable light lets you turn it down in the evening.

3. Features worth having

  • Remote control: all the fans in the table above include one, so you can change speed or switch the light from bed or the couch.
  • Several speeds: the Synerji fans have six speed settings.
  • Retractable blades: the blades fold away when the fan is off, so the fitting looks like a light fitting.
  • DC motor: DC ceiling fans generally run more quietly and use less electricity than AC fans of a similar size. They usually cost more; see our DC models.

4. Check the ceiling

Check the fan's height against your ceiling height: the SPAZIO Fan-Tastic, for example, is 350mm high, so allow for that under a low ceiling. Ceiling fans with lights connect to the mains and must be installed by a qualified electrician, who will also check that the ceiling point can carry the fan.
