LED Strip Lights: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between COB and SMD strip light?
COB strip gives a continuous line of light with no visible dots. SMD strip uses individual LEDs, which can show as dots on shiny surfaces unless the strip sits in a channel with a diffuser.
Do I need a driver for LED strip?
24V strip runs from a 24V driver, sold separately. Choose a driver rated above the total wattage of the strip it will power. 220V strip is made for mains voltage and uses its own connector.
Which IP rating do I need for strip lights?
IP20 is for dry indoor areas. IP65 is for kitchens, bathrooms and covered outdoor areas where the strip may get damp.
Why use an aluminium channel?
An aluminium channel with a diffuser hides the LED dots, protects the strip and helps it run cooler, which gives a neater finish under cabinets and in cornices.
