LED Bulbs: frequently asked questions

How do I know which bulb fits my light?

Check the cap on the base: common types are E27 (large screw), B22 (bayonet), E14 (small screw), GU10 (two short thick pins) and GU5.3/MR16 (two thin pins, 12V). Our guide to light bulb types explains each one.

What do 3000K, 4000K and 6000K mean?

It is the colour temperature: 3000K is warm white for living areas and bedrooms, 4000K is cool white for kitchens and offices, and 6000K is daylight for garages and security lighting.

Should I compare watts or lumens?

Compare lumens, which measure light output. Watts measure power use, and LED bulbs give the same light as old incandescent bulbs for far fewer watts.

Can I dim LED bulbs?

Only bulbs marked dimmable, used with an LED-compatible dimmer. A non-dimmable bulb on a dimmer can flicker or buzz.
