About Downlights

Downlights give a room clean, even light from the ceiling. This range covers recessed fittings that sit flush in the ceiling board, surface-mount fittings for concrete slabs and ceilings you can't cut into, and IP65 splash-proof fittings for bathrooms and covered patios.

Most fittings here take a GU10 lamp, sold separately, so you choose the brightness and colour: warm white (3000K) for living areas and bedrooms, cool white (4000K) for kitchens and work areas. Tilt fittings let you angle the beam at art or shelving; fixed fittings point straight down.

Do downlights come with a bulb? Fittings marked "Excl. Lamp" are sold without one. The product page lists the lamp type (usually GU10) and maximum wattage. Shop GU10 LED lamps.

Downlights: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between recessed and surface-mount downlights?

Recessed downlights sit flush inside a cut-out in the ceiling board. Surface-mount downlights fix onto the ceiling, so they suit concrete slabs and ceilings you cannot cut into.

Do downlights come with a bulb?

Fittings marked "Excl. Lamp" are sold without one. Most take a GU10 lamp, so you choose the brightness and colour temperature. The product page lists the lamp type and maximum wattage.

Which downlights can I use in a bathroom?

Use fittings with a suitable IP rating, such as IP65 splash-proof downlights, above showers and baths. Your electrician can confirm the right rating for each zone.

How far apart should downlights be spaced?

A common starting point is to space downlights about 1 to 1.5 metres apart and about half that distance from the walls, adjusted for ceiling height and beam angle.
